Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism left him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
